Understanding the Aion 2 Economy: Kinah, Memberships, and the Market

Now that we have a better understanding of how the global servers will operate. It’s time to understand what to do when you are pushing past the initial leveling phase and encountering Aion 2’s core endgame systems. Whether you are socketing stigmas, enhancing weapons, or buying materials. All of your progress quickly becomes tied to the game’s unique financial architecture.

NCSoft has completely redesigned the original 2008 economic framework in an attempt to: curb botting and real-money trading (RMT). These are the basics you need to know about navigating currencies, trade restrictions, the $15 membership and resource sinks in Aion 2.

1. The Currency Matrix: Kina vs. Quna

The first shift original Aion veterans will notice is the updated terminology and currency breakdown:

  • Kina (formerly “Kinah”): The primary earned currency of Atreia. This is used for gear enhancement, Stigma unlocks, repairs, teleports, and market trading.
    • Bound Kina: Earned through main quests and basic activities. It covers personal upkeep costs like NPC repairs, skill books, and teleports, but cannot be transferred or spent on the player market.
    • Tradeable Kina: Earned from open-world drops, boss content, and market sales. This fuels player-to-player trading on the central Market.
  • Quna: The premium store currency purchased with real-world money. It is used for cosmetic items and account utilities.

2. The $15/Month Membership Gate Explained

Aion 2 is entirely free-to-play to download and level up. However the player economy is gated by an optional $15/month Membership subscription.

What Membership Unlocks:

  • The Central Market (Auction House): Free-to-play players can collect loot. However only Members can list items or buy from other players on the central Market. Free players must rely on self-found gear, quest rewards, and crafting.
  • The Kina ↔ Quna Exchange: Members gain access to a first-party currency exchange system (similar to a WoW Token), allowing players to convert earned Kina into Quna or vice versa safely in-game.
  • Priority Queue Access: During high-traffic periods when servers hit capacity, active Members receive priority queue placement.

3. Key Trade Rules: Direct Trades Disabled

To maintain economy health and aggressively combat third-party RMT gold-sellers, NCSoft instituted two major structural constraints:

  1. Direct Player-to-Player Trades Are Disabled: You cannot open a direct trade window with another player or drop items on the ground for others to pick up. All player trading must pass through the central Market system.
  2. Account-Wide Weekly Dungeon Limits: Account progression tracks a combined total of 84 dungeon clears per week across your entire account. Once your account hits this 84-run limit, tradeable Kina and item drops decrease drastically. This prevents bot farms from running dozens of alt accounts to flood the server with inflated currency.

4. Primary Kinah / Kina Sinks in the Endgame

Once you begin building your character’s Combat Power (CP), Kina will be your most critical resource. Major gold sinks include:

  • Gear Enhancement (+1 to +X): Enhancing armor and weapons requires Enhance Stones and Kina. While the system includes a 100% success rate up to +10 and a built-in pity safety counter to prevent item breaking, higher enhancement tiers require substantial Kina investments.
  • Stigma Enhancement (Levels 1–25): Unlocking all 5 Stigma slots at level 23 and upgrading skills up to level 25 requires both Abyss Points (AP) from PvP and Kina for socketing.
  • Soul Imprinting & Soul Binding: Equipping and refining high-grade gear applies Soul Imprinting, opening up additional stat lines and Soul Binding slots that require ongoing material and currency investment.
  • Crafting & Transfer Crafting: High-tier weapons and accessories can be forged using gathering materials and Kina, while Transfer Crafting allows players to carry existing enhancement levels over to new gear.

Economic Strategy Summary for Day 5+

  1. Use Bound Kina First: Save your tradeable Kina for the Market and spend your Bound Kina on repairs, teleports, and skill books whenever possible.
  2. Focus on One Main Character: Due to the 84-run weekly account dungeon limit, spreading your runs thin across multiple alts reduces overall gold efficiency.
  3. Decide on Membership Early: If you plan to engage heavily in crafting, flipping items, or selling rare raid drops, activating the $15 Membership is essential for unlocking market listing rights.
