Elyos vs. Asmodian: Which Faction Should You Choose in Aion 2?
With Founder’s Pack Advance Access drawing to a close and the global free-to-play launch hitting on October 5, 2026, millions of incoming players are about to face the defining decision of their journey in Atreia: Will you side with the sunlit Elyos or the dark Asmodians?
Unlike character customization or gear choices, your faction pick binds your character to a side in Atreia’s eternal open-world war. This guide breaks down the lore, aesthetic differences, campaign structure, and PvP implications so you and your guild can lock in the right pick on Day 1.

1. Lore & World Context: Atreia Sundered
Aion 2 takes place 200 years after the events of the original game. Long ago, the god Aion created Atreia as a unified world anchored by the central Tower of Eternity. When the draconic Balaur turned against creation, Aion elevated human heroes into winged Daevas led by the Twelve Empyrean Lords.
A catastrophic failure during a peace summit triggered the Great Cataclysm, destroying the Tower of Eternity and tearing Atreia into two shattered halves separated by a spatial void known as Reshanta (The Abyss):
- Elysea (The Elyos): Blessed with the light of the southern hemisphere, the Elyos developed radiant, winged appearances and majestic architecture. They view themselves as Aion’s true chosen protectors.
- Asmodae (The Asmodians): Cast into the dark, frozen northern hemisphere, the Asmodians adapted to harsh environments. In Aion 2, Asmodians feature a refined, rugged aesthetic while retaining their fierce spirit.

In Aion 2, both factions face a terrifying new threat: the Balaur have conquered much of Atreia using Fafnite Gems—dark crystals capable of trapping Daeva souls to reanimate their empty bodies as thralls or mutating monsters mid-combat. Despite this shared enemy, the ancient hatred between Elyos and Asmodians remains as intense as ever.
2. Does Faction Choice Lock Your Class?
No. A major quality-of-life feature in Aion 2 is that class choice is completely independent of faction choice.
Both Elyos and Asmodians have full access to all 8 launch classes:
- Frontline: Templar & Gladiator
- Melee Burst: Assassin
- Ranged DPS: Ranger & Sorcerer
- Pet / Control: Spiritmaster (Elementalist)
- Support & Healing: Cleric & Chanter
Whether you play an Asmodian Sorcerer or an Elyos Templar, skill kits, Stigma slots, and baseline stat scaling (Smite vs. Might) function identically across both factions.
3. Campaign & Regional Progression
Your faction choice determines your starting zones, narrative campaign, and early leveling environment:
- The Elyos Path: Begins in sun-dappled regions, following questlines centered around recovering lost historical memories, battling local Krall tribes, and investigating ancient celestial ruins.
- The Asmodian Path: Opens in rugged northern territories, diving into the story of the Bulwark of Morheim—a massive protective barrier erected by the sacrifice of the Imperial Lords—and fighting back against Balaur incursions.
While both paths converge into shared endgame loops around level 23+ and the unlock of Stigma skills, your first 15–20 hours of story, world exploration, and quest NPC encounters will be distinct to your faction.
4. Open-World PvP, Space-Time Rifts & The Abyss
The core reason faction choice matters is endgame PvPvE:
- Space-Time Rifts: Dynamic dimensional tears open randomly across open-world leveling zones, allowing rival faction squads to actively invade opposing territory. If you choose Elyos, Asmodian raiding parties can—and will—gank you in contested zones.
- Reshanta (The Abyss): A seamless 3D aerial zone where vertical flight mechanics become your primary combat axis. Controlling fortresses and artifacts in the Abyss rewards Abyss Points (AP) and Faction Points, which are required to buy top-tier Abyss PvP gear and level 25 Stigma enhancements.
- No Cross-Faction Guilds: You cannot party up in the open world (dungeons are the exception), join guilds, or share open-world chat with players of the opposing faction. If your friend group or gaming community is playing Aion 2, you must pick the exact same faction and server on Day 1.
